NEW YORK, July 25 (newratings.com) – Online services provider Yahoo Inc (YHOO) and security services developer Symantec Inc (SYMC) Monday announced that they have joined hands to launch a joint consumer internet security service in a bid to compete against products offered by Microsoft Corp (MSFT) and Google Inc (GOOG).
As per the terms of the deal, Symantec's Norton Internet Security product will be offered directly to Yahoo customers. The deal is an expansion on an ongoing partnership and seeks to tap the growing demand for internet protection products, the two companies stated. The tie up will give Symantec access to Yahoo’s large customer base, while providing security services to the latter’s customers. Symantec has also agreed to offer its Norton Spyware scan for the Yahoo Toolbar and a co-branded toolbar that will provide direct links to the company’s other security tools.
