Yahoo acquires sports website Rivals.com

NEW YORK, June 21 (newratings.com) - Yahoo! Inc (YHOO) Thursday announced that it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire Rivals.com for an undisclosed sum.

The internet giant said the acquisition would boost its position in the online sports information business. Rivals.com has about 150 smaller sites devoted to college and high school sports and recruiting information, with the primary focus on football and basketball. The site gets about two million visitors every month, and has more than 180,000 subscribers. Rivals.com’s CEO is to be retained by Yahoo.
