BPL service providers unlikely to be a serious threat to broadband providers

08/09/04 - RBC Capital Markets

NEW YORK, August 9 (New Ratings) - Analyst Jonathan Atkin of RBC Capital Markets says that the broadband service provides are unlikely to witness significant competition from the BPL (Broadband over Powerline) service providers in the foreseeable future.

In a research note published this morning, the analyst mentions that the BPL service providers are likely to face challenges in operational co-operation and partnership arrangements, despite their technological advantage. The target market of BPL deployments, the densely populated locales, already has cable and DSL options, according to RBC Capital Markets.
