Nextel launches email service for java enabled phones

05/24/05 - newratings.com

NEW YORK, May 24 (newratings.com) – Nextel Communications (NXTL) and Visto Corporation have launched a new e-mail service, Mobile Email Enhanced, for java-enabled mobile phones. The new service is similar to the push technology offered by Research in Motion’s (RIMM) blackberry service, which alerts subscribers to new e-mail on their mobile device.

Mobile Email Enhanced combines Visto's wireless synchronization technology, ConstantSync, with an application running on the phone to provide real-time access to email, contact lists and calendars. The new service works in tandem with Microsoft Outlook, IBM Lotus Notes and most Internet email accounts, such as Earthlink and Yahoo!. Mobile Email Enhanced can also synchronize users' contacts and calendar items, which can be viewed on the phone.
