Netscape 8.0 disables Internet Explorer XML capabilities

05/27/05 - newratings.com

NEW YORK, May 27 (newratings.com) – Microsoft Inc (MSFT) has advised its customers using Netscape 8 and Internet Explorer in the same machine to uninstall Netscape 8 and edit the registry files, since Netscape causes Internet Explorer to crash.

Dave Massy, senior programme manager for Microsoft's Internet Explorer, said that the company is investigating the issue and looking forward to working with Netscape to resolve the issue. Massy also said that Netscape disables Internet Explorer's XML rendering capabilities. If one tries to browse an XML file or RSS speed in Internet Explorer, a blank page appears, he added. America Online's spokesman, Andrew Weinstein, said, however, that, "This issue affects a very small number of users who visit sites that require that advanced technology." Andrew Weinstein added that his company would not encourage users to uninstall Netscape 8.0, since the company plans to fix the issue next week.
