06/24/05 - newratings.com

NEW YORK, June 24 (newratings.com) – International Business Machines Corporation (IBM) is planning to expand its payroll jobs in India by more than 14,000 workers this year, the New York Times reported on Friday.

According to New York Times, IBM's hiring plans for India have been disclosed by an internal company document, dated April 2005. The published report cited a senior trade union leader and president of Washington Alliance of Technology Workers (WashTech), Marcus Courtney, as saying, "IBM is really pushing this offshore outsourcing to relentlessly cut costs and to export skilled jobs abroad." The New York Times said that it received the company document, labeled "IBM Confidential," from WashTech. The news of IBM's Indian hiring plans follows the company's recently announced plans to layoff up to 13,000 workers in the US and Europe.
