T-Mobile to launch new mobile service, work with Google - update 1

06/30/05 - newratings.com

LONDON, June 30 (newratings.com) – Deutsche Telekom’s (DTE) mobile phone service provider, T-Mobile, Tuesday announced plans to launch a new open mobile Internet service, named web'n'walk, in Germany in July and in the UK and the Netherlands by the end of the year.

T-Mobile announced that the new service will allow the users of its mobile phones to surf the Internet as easily as on a personal computer. There will be no restriction on the types of sites that a user can access, T-Mobile stated. Google’s (GOOG) search page will be pre-configured as the home page and will be accessible via Microsoft’s (MSFT) Internet Explorer. T-Mobile and Google have agreed to work together on new offers through the former company’s internet service. However, no financial details of the agreement were announced. T-Mobile also announced plans to launch mobile devices with larger displays that are better suited to the web, besides offering cheaper tariffs to encourage Internet usage. The new service is available for $12.10 a month in Germany and lets users access the Internet over its 3G network.
