Cisco Systems unveils video conferencing system

NEW YORK, October 23 (newratings.com) – Cisco Systems Inc (CSCO) Sunday unveiled a high-definition, video conferencing system called Cisco TelePresence.
The San Jose-based company’s new product will be available from December in two versions initially. The basic TelePresence 1000 model, which is designed for one-on-one meetings, is priced at $79,000 per station. The TelePresence 3000, for bigger meetings, is installed in the form of a small conference room with three high-definition screens on which participants are displayed life-size, is listed at $299,000 per station. The company’s new product is expected to compete with Hewlett-Packard's video conferencing system, the HP Halo Collaboration Studio. Reuters quoted Marthin De Beer, Cisco Systems’ emerging markets technology group’s vice president, as saying that it will take a few years for the product to become profitable.
