Amazon.com reports record-breaking 2006 holiday sales

NEW YORK, December 27 (newratings.com) - Amazon.com (AMZN) Tuesday announced that it had again delivered its "best ever" sales in the holiday season this year, with orders in excess of four billion placed on December 11.
The Seattle-based online retailer said it had shipped more than 99% on schedule in order to meet deadlines worldwide in its twelfth holiday season. The company added that it shipped as many as 3.4 million units on a single day. Amazon.com said it sold 1,000 Microsoft Xbox 360 game consoles in 29 seconds, after the company brought down the regular retail price by as much as two-thirds. Garmin’s Global Positioning System technology, Apple Computer’s iPods and Canon’s Powershot Digital Elph cameras were among the highest selling electronics items.
